HUMANITY IN A BOX? by Cathy D. Slaght
This weekend has been devoted to research.
To clarify: am dog-sitting for my daughter. There’s a TV. Yes, those flickering images can drain voltage. However, there are times I’m willing to sacrifice myself for the group… deep research, etc.
Snacks keep my strength up.
Anyway, last night I watched GIRL IN A BOX, a true story about a young woman who is kidnapped and tortured for TEN YEARS. Much of this time she was kept in a wooden box.
One time she broke out. (the captor had gone out of town and left her without food or water for days.) She didn’t run away, though. She just got some water, and then waited for him to return. Over the years, he’d convinced her she was his slave and that she would be in great danger from OTHER SLAVE OWNERS if she tried to leave.
As the years passed, it appears he developed a fondness for her, though, and sometimes they would talk. At one point she asks when he realized he was drawn to torture women. His answer- at around age 6. (then he got upset and put her back to the box.)
But SIX YEARS OLD? What WAS this? An organic brain disease? Psychopathy? A past life? Dimensional?
OR, could there be such a thing as demon possession?
Many ridicule such an idea, and/or try not to think about it. Others absolutely deny it’s possible, or, at the opposite extreme, attribute EVERYTHING to it., Finally, there are some who acknowledge demonic forces, but think they are IMMUNE, for whatever reason.
But what if spiritual attack were responsible for many forms of illness, lack, and bizarre/self-destructive behavior?
Anyway- spoiler- there’s a happy ending. There had been another woman in the mix, the torturer’s wife. At first, she also tormented the young woman, because she herself was terrified. But with time, she grew stronger. Eventually she left, but then came back and rescued the “slave”, putting her on a bus home.
“Aren’t you afraid of him?” asked the young woman, before she got on the bus. “He can turn us over to the other slave owners!”
But the wife had broken through the illusion. She was aware.
“There are no slave owners.” She said...
…and, If I’d written the story, she would have added… ”of humanity.”
And, with that, I must get back to my research.
Today is a Snapped marathon.
