ARE YOU A MONOMANIAC? by Cathy D. Slaght
Now that I've learned this term, I realize it may apply to me.
A monomaniac is a person who only does one thing for the majority of their waking hours. Typically it applies to people who sit at the computer most of the time.
In my case, that's me. I'm always working with the SRC, writing, or looking at something online. It's my work AND my entertainment.
But I've been listening to a series of youtubes by Barbara O'Neil. She's got some amazing information on brain health. That's where I learned that this can- and will- throw the brain off balance.
Now I have a choice. (Choice is a frontal lobe function.) I need to do some other things besides sit at the computer. Cooking, sewing, gardening, reading a book - anything. Top of the list, for brain development, would be to learn to play a musical instrument.
Of course I made a list of the top categories of musical instruments and scanned it with the SRC- LOL- and I want to learn to play the keyboard! That should be interesting. But apparently this is very good for the mind.
Also, I've been juicing- that's like cooking, right? AND I recently purchased a section of land in a community garden, so that project starts Sunday.
Point is, with new information we have choices. I now choose to change some habits because the brain - our CPU- is too precious to mess with.
Anyway, hope you get some time to type "Barbara O'Neil" into www.youtube.com and listen to what she has to say. She offers some real gems of information. Meanwhile, over the next few days I'll share some of the highlights.
And why is it important to acquire as much knowledge as possible?
You are the architect of your life. The more you learn, the better your design.
