Years ago I had a disastrous and brief marriage.

I'd met a wonderful man at a wedding and he'd swept me off my feet.  My friends were even duped- it seemed my dreams had come true.  But the day of the wedding there was an abrupt change Suddenly there were many things about me that needed to change.

"You are a moron", he would scream on a daily basis.

Within weeks he'd taken over my business (real estate). If I did the slightest thing on my own- like make a phone call to a client- he would erupt into a violent rage. He took my pager (no cell phones back then!) fired my assistant, isolated me from my friends. Bought himself a car, fancy clothes (even ostrich boots!) with money I'd saved over the years.

But one day he'd stepped out for an errand, and I'd made the mistake of answering my own home phone. A realtor had an offer on a listing. My husband was so enraged when he returned and learned about this that he'd thrown me to the floor.

And that was it.

" You are a fine man" I told him, and I love you. But we've made a mistake, I don't make you happy. You deserve to be happy. ".

I did this while on the phone with 911.

It took 3 days to get him out of my house, followed by a restraining order.

His rant was "I'M HAPPY! I'M HAPPY!"

And he may have been. He had no money at all when we'd married. With me, he'd been living high off the hog while laying down the law.

This present situation in France has brought back these memories. The Muslims are wonderful people, and the French initially welcomed them with open arms.

But, even before this recent bloodbath, there have been problems. They aren't "happy".

They want a Muslim state.

The French  philosophy is "liberty and fraternity." This is never going to work.

It's sad, but maybe it's time to send the Muslims home.
