Part IV: THE SUGAR WE DON'T KNOW WE'RE EATING by Cathy D. Slaght

Zippy's situation:

He was a slug, in some sort of lab experiment, teaching a bunch of other slugs how to program KINDNESS into their nerve cells. Scientists were hoping to apply what was learned to HUMANS.

Because- if the present state of unkindness among humans continued, they would eventually ALL be just a bunch of slugs.

On the other hand, if the experiment succeeded he would be transformed into a higher life form. Probably not human, though. He had somehow squandered that privilege.

(so YES, he sometimes speculated- let them ALL be destroyed!)

BUT he was starting to enjoy helping the slugs Spiral Up. Some might say he had even become fond of them.

He'd assemble a group- and what a group it would be- many had been powerful when they were human - kings, queens, lots of politicians and celebrities- and offer encouragement:

You may see yourselves as slugs, but you are really LIGHT. As you continue to practice kindness, the vitality of your light will increase and you can transform.”

(As it turned out, EVERY SLUG had been offered the same deal as Zip, they just hadn't taken action)

His most frequent message, though: “If you do something to help just ONE living creature, there is an absolute gain. Help the Human Race- of course with harm to NONE- and the results are ARITHMETIC, like doubling a penny every day.

There is NO excuse for being fatalistic or lazy.”

Practicing kindness, first to themselves, then to others, many slugs continued to Spiral Up. They were also getting daily energy work, because words and codes were etched into the steps...

Motivation 498714...Nothing impossible in this world 519 7148 ...Protection from danger 71931...

Light was RADIATING from them as they continued to eliminate sugar and hydrate with pure water- it was amazing...Zip had not realized the destructive power of sugar when it came to consciousness.

(yes, each step represented an elevation of consciousness)

They were now just one step away from the top. Zip KNEW they were going to make it. Just one thing bothered him. WHAT had he done while in human form that had been so evil?

Then, late one night, it HIT him. As the memories came flooding back, he was so filled with shame and regret that he began to fall, step by step, finally landing with a THUNK at the bottom:

HE was the agricultural expert who had introduced a plan to transform food by adding SUGAR. This may have been the major factor in the decline of consciousness of the human race.

His will to live was gone. He understood why so many slugs had chosen the euthanasia group...

But suddenly he felt a slight boost of energy- somehow it bumped him back up a step. Looking up he saw SWEAT- s/he had implemented his teachings so was nearly at the top.

“There is a law in physics”, she explained, “that allows subatomic particles to borrow energy for just a millisecond. So, I loaned you some of mine. You can't KEEP it, but maybe a few others will step up to the plate...

...provided you now practice kindness to yourself...starting with self-forgiveness...just as you taught US.

And, just so you know- I was the one who invented High Fructose Corn Syrup.

I had no INTENT to harm humanity- nor did you- but lack of intent doesn't always count. We've learned, and are now getting another chance to serve humanity.”

And so it was that a fairly significant number of slugs- Zip included- arrived at the top step.

The experiment had been a success- information from their nerve cells had been implemented into some human nerve cells ..
