Last weekend I had a chance to take a two day Tai Chi certification course. It hadn't been part of anything I'd ever considered doing, but a friend was signed up, had to drop out last minute, and asked me to fill in.

And I am so thankful. It was an amazing, life changing event. The technique I learned combines Tai Chi and Qi Gong. These techniques help tap into universal energy, or qi.

Put another way, they raise voltage.

Tai Chi came AFTER Qi Gong- as a way to help the monks in China protect themselves. It seems since all they did was meditate, they'd became weak. The peasants were stealing their food.

With qi gong, they could have protected themselves. But qi gong, for them, was banned.  The Emperor didn't want them pulled away from their meditations.  In fact, the legend goes, the Emperor banished the man from China who tried to teach the monks qi gong.

This person, known as Dama's, went to a cave, meditated for years, and came back with Tai Chi. The Emperor approved, because it was simply a moving meditation.

However, it DID empower the monks to kick ass the next time anybody came for their food. (They had definitely tapped in to something.)

This made me think about "caves". If you watched The Stan Tookie Williams story, (posted over the weekend) you saw that he also went to a "cave". His cave was known as the "hole", though. It was the worst form of solitary confinement in prison, where he was on death row.

Williams had been the leader of the infamous Cribs gang. He'd murdered 4 people that they knew of, and had been sentenced to death. But even then, he was a hero, a role model to many. In prison, he had such charisma that the prisoners were virtually under his control. Authorities could not contain his energy, so finally put him in the "hole".

And the "hole" led to his transformation. Turns out he was a brilliant man, a gifted writer.  He authored a series of children's books, teaching self-empowerment. He explained, in a way children could understand, why the frustration he had expressed through violence was not the answer.

Stan Tookie Williams was nominated for the Nobel Prize.

And his legacy- you can only imagine how many lives he transformed.

So a question - have you been to the "cave" ? Are you there now? It can be many things- an illness,  heartbreak, severe financial setback.  

But, it seems that this is what it takes for some to learn how to tap into "universal qi".     

You could be on the path to greatness.
