![]() THE DEVIL DOES BOGO by Cathy D. Slaght Was talking with a friend yesterday about wine. Seems she's developed a habit of drinking one or two glasses every night. It worries her. " I decide to stop", she says, "and then the market has a buy one get one free special". It got me to thinking. So I checked out the "buy one get one free" specials at the nearest supermarket. I was out of touch, because I've been going to a smaller place which has some healthier choices. Frankly, I still like the bad stuff, so the less temptation, the better. If I had shopped at the "popular" supermarket this week, the following were bogo- ice cream, pasta, cookies, pastry turnovers, soft drinks, brownie mix, and cookie mix. And yes, there were a few items, like laundry detergent- that were also featured, but for the most part it was all food we shouldn't really eat . But it's hard to resist a bargain, so we succumb. And, since it's bogo, we eat twice as much of it. Is this really a bargain? Not if you factor in the cost of being overweight, or being too sick to earn a living, or even to have a decent quality of life. Worse if you consider the possibility that you might leave your loved ones prematurely. Diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's, heart disease, etc, are all through the roof. We're getting our knee and hip joints replaced at a record pace. Depression is epidemic. We can't sleep. Or, if we can sleep, we can't breath. ETC. Years back I learned that much of this crisis in our physical and mental health is due to processed foods. They're loaded with sugar. The more we eat, the sicker we get. This is because our cells need a power source, and that source is known as mitochondria. Think of the mitochondria as our batteries. Sugar disintegrates these batteries. It's not the ONLY factor in mitochondrial breakdown, but probably #1. As a comparison to what this does to us, imagine you have the most incredible cell phone in the world, but forget to charge the battery. With a dead battery, do you really have a phone? Does it make phone calls? No, it's just a shell. Many of us are also just shells. Our batteries may not be dead yet, but they're extremely weak. This lowers our voltage, or electrical current. Our voltage pulls in a "like current" from the invisible world of informational frequency surrounding us. And, just for the record, this isn't new age stuff- this is mainstream science This invisible world of frequency exists. It's measurable. We work with it every day on many levels. It feeds data to our computers, cell phones, televisions, and, on a much more profound level, to us. With a weak battery it's like only having 3 stations on the television, or a poor internet connection.. The lower the voltage, the more stress we experience. With stress, we turn to comfort foods. They seem to serve as a sedative for our poor frayed nerves, something to get us through the day. One more time you get that bag of chips, or box of cookies. Problem is, it's never just "one more time". We've turned in to a nation of addicts. But the news is not all bad. The health care providers are profiting. Just today I heard about a drug that went from $13.50 to $750.00. 5000% increase. This drug combats toxoplasmosis and other diseases that result from a low immune system. When the mitochondria are broken down, the immune system weakens. Perfect. I'm glad someone is making a profit off this. Maybe one of these days we'll start seeing ads like: "Crack Cocaine. Buy one get one free". With the corporations running the county, it could happen.
